At Airbox, our values can be described as behavioral guidance. They are the principles and beliefs that provide a cohesive vision and define who we are as a business. In doing so, they define our organisation internally, and externally with our stakeholders and customers. In essence, they are our “true north” that help us to navigate our organisation through prosperous times as well as uncertain periods. Our company beliefs and values are embodied in our culture. Whilst we celebrate the diversity of the people we work with, there are certain values and attributes all of us share – whatever your background, these are the qualities we are looking for in the people we hire: Commitment, Positive Realism, Ethics, Accountability, Humanity, Quality, and Delight.

You will also lead the design of prototypes for new markets, meeting expectations for a contemporary and polished user interface.
You will lead the initial creation of core patterns, components, and standards, forming the foundations of a future design system. You will establish high-fidelity blueprints that ensure a seamless transition from design to development, while ensuring our interfaces meet high accessibility and environmental usability standards, so products remain usable in the most extreme environments..You put user centred design at the heart of what you do and believe strongly in field research at the frontline whether that’s a police vehicle, a fire station, or a HEMS helicopter to ensure our product design continues to save lives.
You report to the Product Lead and operate as an individual contributor, working closely with Product and Engineering within cross‑functional squads to ensure design intent is clearly translated into delivery. You are an experienced designer who can navigate the complexities of legacy UX and provide clear design guardrails that enable teams to deliver at high velocity. You are commercially aware, demonstrate high initiative, and are comfortable operating with minimal oversight. You will have the opportunity to help define and apply design standards as the organisation scales.
What you’ll do:
Product Design
Design to Development: Create a Figma ecosystem that provides clear, implementable blueprints for engineers working in .NET 10, MAUI environments.
Product Modernisation: Lead the refinement of the current platform, modernising UI, decluttering legacy workflows and reducing mental load for users.
New Product Design: Provide the visual and interaction blueprint for our new product, prioritising a modern, high-margin aesthetic that will appeal to the new market.
Design Decision Support: Provide design insight and evidence to inform product decisions, ensuring user needs and the reality of frontline user experience is well represented.
Design Iteration: Partner with Product to evaluate released designs through user feedback and operational learnings.
Discovery & User Research
Field Observation: Conduct regular field observations with users like Police, Fire, and HEMS crews to ensure design decisions are rooted in frontline reality.
User Advocacy: Translate high-stress environmental factors (vibration, low light, gloved use, high cognitive load) into actionable design requirements.
Rapid Prototyping: Lead continuous discovery for our new product, using rapid prototyping to validate market fit and user delight in the new market.
Continuous Discovery: Foster and promote a culture of prototyping to test product market fit in new markets.
Design Leadership & Execution
Design Standardisation: Guide/Lead the transition from ad‑hoc UI solutions to a shared set of reusable components, working closely with Engineering to ensure feasibility and maintainability.
Mentorship: Guide the team, particularly, Product Owners and Engineers, to consider design implications early in delivery.
Prioritisation: Apply a disciplined approach to prioritisation: ensuring mission-critical reliability on the current platform while focusing on a contemporary interface for our new product.
About You:
Highly Experienced Product Designer: Strong track record of designing complex, data-heavy interfaces in B2B, GovTech, or mission-critical environments. Practical experience designing to accessibility standards in complex, real‑world environments.
Advanced UX/UI Proficiency: Equal capabilities in deep UX research/information architecture and high-fidelity UI execution in Figma. Demonstrated impact through improved product usability, efficiency, or reduction in user error.
Field Researcher: Experienced in field research and understands the approach needed in high-pressure operational environments.
Scale up: You are comfortable working in evolving environments where systems, processes, and constraints are still forming. You can mature design processes in these types of environments.
Pragmatic Design Approach: You understand that in a crisis, clarity is more important than beauty.
Technical Understanding: Ability to engage with Engineering regarding component reusability, technical debt, and the constraints of mobile environments.
Stakeholder Management: Experienced at stakeholder alignment and can communicate effectively with senior engineers, executive leaders, and customers.
Skilled Communicator and Listener: Ability to conduct field research, explain a design choice or data to stakeholders effectively.
What we offer: We’re always looking for new ways to celebrate our people. You’ll be no different.
